As some of you may or may not be aware there is a limited bariatric service available in the region.

As some of you may or may not be aware there is a limited bariatric service available in the region. The BOPDHB has funding for eight gastric bypasses per year. Last year the DHB received 71 referrals. A significant number of the declined referrals were because patients did not have significant ‘obesity related’ co-morbidity. If patients don’t suffer from the listed conditions, they are unlikely to be accepted.
