There is always a high demand for specialist services and if we can find a way to reduce or make their clinics more efficient then this it will be advantageous to us all, especially our patients.
The gynaecologists have identified a group of patients that attend outpatient clinic just to have their ring pessaries changed every six months. These patients are often elderly with other co-morbidities and avoiding a hospital visit would be beneficial to them and would free up space for other cases. Perhaps some of these patients could have their pessaries changed by their GP?
Completing our three question survey would help in looking at the feasibility of this initiative. The survey means we can gauge the skill level in primary care and help us make appropriate recommendations back to the Gynae team.
