Preassessment Clinic - Change to Elective Surgery Optimisation Process

The Preassessment Clinic (PAC) has changed the process of getting patients ready for elective surgery.

The Preassessment Clinic (PAC) has changed the process of getting patients ready for elective surgery.

Patients with uncontrolled hypertension or diabetes, severe hyponatraemia or anaemia picked up at preassessment will be asked to see their GP to optimise these issues before surgery can proceed.

They will be given a letter to take to their GP explaining the issue. There will be a link to guidelines for each condition on Bay Navigator, which you can see here.

The patient will then be asked to inform PAC when the issue has been resolved.

If they do not contact PAC within six months, it is possible that their elective operation will be cancelled.

It is hoped that passing the responsibility for health optimisation back to the patient will result in significant time savings for the PAC staff.
