Does your patient need an endoscopy? If so, are you aware that there is a ‘direct access’ eReferral available?
The Direct Access to Endoscopy and CT Colonography service enables GPs to refer patients with the recommendation that they go directly to upper or lower GI endoscopy without a preceding Specialist outpatient appointment.
If you are unsure as to whether your patient requires an Endoscopy or CT Colonography they should be referred for a gastroenterology/general surgery specialist outpatient appointment through the normal eReferral channels.
Please be aware that from now on, if a referral is received for direct endoscopy outside the endoscopy eReferral, it will be returned to the requesting GP with a note to use the correct channel.
