Admission to Hospital for suspected STEMI in the Bay of Plenty

Here’s a quick reminder of who to contact if you suspect your patient is experiencing a STEMI.

  • There's no need to call a cardiologist for hospital acceptance.
  • Call an ambulance on 111 and inform them that you suspect a STEMI.
  • The ambulance crew on arrival will determine which hospital to take the patient to, considering the time since diagnosis and the availability of the Cath Lab.

You’re welcome to contact the Cardiology team in Tauranga team for advice on a suspected STEMI, but it's not necessary as it might be with other hospital admissions.

To quickly reach a cardiologist in a suspected STEMI situation, ask for the Cath Lab via telephony on 07 306 0777 (Eastern BOP) or 07 579 8044 (Western BOP).
