Emergency Medical Admissions - Feedback Please

Many of you will have noticed that when referring patients acutely to the on-call medical team you now speak to a Consultant/Senior Medical Officer(SMO) rather than a Registrar.

Many of you will have noticed that when referring patients acutely to the on-call medical team you now speak to a Consultant/Senior Medical Officer(SMO) rather than a Registrar. This innovation has been introduced as part of the review of the Admission Planning Unit (APU). The principle is to involve SMOs at the earliest possible opportunity of the patients journey. The SMO will be based in APU during the day. Out-of-hours the on-call registrar will take the calls.

As this is a new idea we would appreciate your feedback, good or bad, as to how it is working. Let us know if you feel there are any advantages, and importantly whether you have any issues with the new system.
