Important Change to TIA Pathway in EBOP

The aim of the TIA pathway is to reduce the incidence of patients going on to have a stroke having had a TIA

The aim of the TIA pathway is to reduce the incidence of patients going on to have a stroke having had a TIA. It is recommended that patients who have an anterior circulation TIA have carotid dopplers and CT angiogram as a matter of urgency so that patients meeting clinical criteria have access to carotid endarterectomy within two weeks of their TIA.

Due to the logistics of organising the investigations within the necessary time frame GPs are asked to telephone the Medical SMO on call to discuss any patient who presents with a possible TIA. Those patients who require urgent investigation will then be admitted acutely.

Details regarding the assessment of TIA can still be found here -  Bay Navigator TIA pathway.
