Access to CHIP Via Your PMS

Many of you are already accessing CHIP – the DHB's Clinical Health Information Portal – to see results, clinic letters, discharge summaries and future appointments. I am glad to announce that CHIP is now available directly from your patient management system (Medtech, My Practice and Profile).

Many of you are already accessing CHIP – the DHB's Clinical Health Information Portal – to see results, clinic letters, discharge summaries and future appointments. I am glad to announce that CHIP is now available directly from your patient management system (Medtech, My Practice and Profile).

This means that users with a BPAC account (needed for eReferrals, etc.) no longer need to enter a user name or password. In addition, when the CHIP link is clicked you will be taken straight to the electronic record of the patient that you currently have open in your PMS.

Medtech users have had this ability through the BPAC Patient Prompt for a couple of months, but it is now also accessible from the BPAC home page for those practices that do not run the patient prompt.

We believe this offers general practice clinicians in the Bay of Plenty the quickest, most comprehensive access to hospital electronic health records in New Zealand. Many thanks to the DHB Information Management Department and BPAC for working on this. The initiative was recently short listed for the DHB Innovation Award.

Users will also notice that community dispensing data is now included within Éclair in CHIP. This allows clinicians to see what medications are being collected by patients.

It is still necessary for new users to sign and send an access agreement to the DHB to obtain access. The user agreement can be found here - http://baynav.bopdhb.govt.nz/media/1724/access-agreement-blank-template.doc
