Radiology Advice in EBOP

A number of GPs have contacted the DHB to clarify how they can get radiology advice during office hours. As we have only a small team in Whakatane, we suggest you do the following to help our staff provide as comprehensive a service as possible.

A number of GPs have contacted the DHB to clarify how they can get radiology advice during office hours. As we have only a small team in Whakatane, we suggest you do the following to help our staff provide as comprehensive a service as possible.

Please contact the Radiology Department via the Radiology Reception direct dial: 306 0809 or 306 0878 and leave a message on their voice mail as messages are checked several times a day.

If going through the hospital telephonist please ask for Whakatane Hospital radiology reception, please do not ask for the radiologist. The duty radiologist is often doing biopsies or other tasks and cannot answer the phone. As you are aware our radiologists have to work away from their desks, often for long periods of time, so it’s impossible for them to answer the phone all the time. The “on-call” radiologist starts at 5pm.

Our advice is to get your phone calls answered, go through the Radiology Receptionist who will ensure a radiologist gets your message. If your call is not answered please leave a message on the answer machine as these messages are checked several times a day.

Patients with emergency conditions should be discussed with the appropriate on-call team and when necessary referred in via the emergency department.
