ADVISORY SUMMARY:

POTENTIAL MEASLES CONTACTS ACROSS NORTH ISLAND:

EXPOSURE AT TAINUI WAKA KAPA HAKA EVENT 16 APRIL CLAUDELANDS EVENTS CENTRE, HAMILTON

Waikato DHB Population Health has been notified of five cases of measles in the Waikato.

The most recent case, while infectious, attended a regional Tainui Waka Kapa Haka festival held Saturday 16 April at the Claudelands Event Centre in Hamilton.

Around 5,000 attended the national event with attendees from throughout the North Island.  There were 17 Kapa Haka groups from areas spanning Coromandel down to South Waikato including Waikato, Hauraki, Maniapoto and Raukawa.

As such there is potential for the case to have had contacts that are now resident across the North Island.

Waikato DHB Population Health will issue a media statement this afternoon.
