Steroids' in Children

A quick reminder from our paediatric colleagues. They have noticed a few children being prescribed oral steroids for bronchiolitis and other respiratory infections. This has included children under 2 years old.

A quick reminder from our paediatric colleagues. They have noticed a few children being prescribed oral steroids for bronchiolitis and other respiratory infections. This has included children under 2 years old.

Their advice is that steroids almost never have any role in any respiratory illness under the age of one, and that under 2 they should only be considered if a child requires hospitalisation.

I have had a quick look on the HealthPathways site and there is a simple guide to the treatment of bronchiolitis in children.
