As you may be aware, BOPDHB has a COVID-19 Virtual Ward Round for GPs. The purpose is to provide a method of discussing non-urgent exacerbations of intercurrent medical conditions due to COVID-19 infection with a medical consultant.

  1. As of 17th January 2022, you will be able to speak to Dr Kirsten Ramsay, respiratory physician, during dedicated sessions daily from Monday to Friday between 1pm and 2pm.
  2. Dr Ramsay will be on annual leave until the 17th January – until then, you can speak to the APU SMO of the day on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 1pm and 2pm. The contact process is the same as below.

Examples of conditions that may need discussion include exacerbations of heart failure or uncontrolled diabetes mellitus due to COVID-19.

To make use of the Virtual Ward Round, please telephone the DHB switchboard via 07 579 8044 and ask to speak to Dr Ramsay directly from 17th January 2022 (or the APU SMO until that time).

If your patient requires admission or urgent discussion outside of these hours, please use the usual process of speaking to the APU consultant on-call and using the acute admission electronic referral form via Best Practice.

Please can we ask for your feedback on the process as you use it? This will help drive quality improvement. You can send your feedback to the GP Liaison team at baynav@bopdhb.govt.nz.
