Dr Andrew Chancellor (Neurologist) and Trish Blattmann (Clinical Nurse Specialist) provide a monthly multiple sclerosis clinic based at Tauranga Hospital.
This clinic was established in January 2014 to coincide with Pharmac’s release of further Disease Modifying Treatments (DMT): Natalizumab, Fingolimod, Aubagio, and Tecfidera, as additions to the interferons and glatiramer acetate, which have been used for the past decade.
The clinic functions to review diagnosis and treatment eligibility and provides counselling, initiation of treatment and monitoring, as well as general oversight of MS patients who are not receiving DMTs. The MS clinic can refer on to allied health, specialist continence nurses, urologists, etc. if needed.
Dr Chancellor and Trish welcome any GP correspondence, in particular notification of any MS relapses, since these may have an impact on medical options and eligibility for new DMTs.
