World Physiotherapy Day

World Physiotherapy was founded on 8th September 1951.  In 1996, this day was officially designated as World Physiotherapy Day marking the unity & solidarity of the global Physiotherapy community.

The focus for 2022 is the role of Physiotherapists in the prevention of Osteoarthritis and in the management of people affected by Osteoarthritis.

In recognition of our amazing Bay of Plenty Physiotherapy community, we wanted to use this as an opportunity to share with you the latest resources relating to prevention and management of OA.  And we wanted to recognise and celebrate initiatives like Community Orthopaedic Triage Service (COTS), the continued interventional work of our Musculoskeletal and Community based Physiotherapy providers in both public and private sector and examples of group-based programmes such as the Activity with Arthritis (AWA) programme which is run in partnership with Body in Motion Physiotherapy.

As well as the attached resources we also have a link to a brand new OA Guidebook for Aotearoa New Zealand which has been developed by Daniel O’brien and his team at AUT.  This is available in digital format for patients with OA.  Please feel free to share with the GP network. https://www.flipsnack.com/FBBB95FF8D6/aotearoa-oa-guidebook-ebook-aug-2022.html
